Women on TargetThe Women on Target program at Sanners is an NRA instructional program that offers classes for ladies only. The purpose of a women-only environment is to provide a non-threatening, encouraging, fun and safe place to introduce women to the fundamentals of shooting. Sanners offers an NRA Instructional Pistol Orientation/MD HQL class, NRA First Steps Rifle class, Introduction to Skeet shooting event, and an NSSF Rimfire Steel Challenge event. We will also offer an NRA Personal Protection in the Home class and practice
sessions to earn achievements in the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship
Qualification Program will also be offered for WoT alumni. |

NRA Instructional Pistol & MD HQL Class teaches
the fundamentals of pistol shooting using .22LR pistols. Students will
learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; the
particular pistol model parts and operation; ammunition; shooting
fundamentals; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill
development. In addition to the NRA Instructional Pistol Orientation
portion of the class the MD HQL required information is also presented
so that upon finishing the class everyone has met the training
requirements to obtain a MD HQL required to purchase a regulated
firearm. For this class everything is provided including firearms, ammo,
eye & ear protection, classroom materials and even lunch! The ladies get to handle many different types of pistols in
dry-fire and live-fire to see which they may prefer. Class runs from
8am to 5pm. Over 200 ladies have completed the class at Sanners and
everyone leaves with confidence and feeling empowered with their new
skills.
NRA First Steps Rifle Class is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to
the safe handling and proper orientation to one specific rifle action
type. This course includes classroom and range time learning to shoot
a specific rifle action type. Students will learn the NRA’s rules for
safe gun handling; the particular rifle model parts and operation;
ammunition; shooting fundamentals; cleaning the rifle; and continued
opportunities for skill development. Everything is provided in this class including lunch. Class runs from 8am to 5pm.
Introduction to Skeet Shooting teaches
the fundamentals of the shotgun shooting sports through skeet
shooting. Firearms and ammo is provided but participants are also
welcome to bring their own. Class runs from 9am to 3pm.
NSSF Rimfire Steel Challenge Event
introduces women to the fun of competition is a very welcoming and fun
event. Rimfire steel consists of stages where 5-7 steel plates are shot
using .22LR pistols and rifles. With 5 strings per stage per firearm
there is a lot of shooting! Firearms and ammo are provided, if needed.
NRA Personal Protection in the Home
teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe
and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and to
provide information on the law-abiding individual’s right to
self-defense. This is an eight-hour course. Students should expect to
shoot
approximately 100 rounds of ammunition. Students will learn basic
defensive shooting skills, strategies for home safety and responding to a
violent confrontation, firearms and the law, how to choose a handgun
for self-defense, and continued opportunities for skill development. At
a minimum the First Steps Pistol Orientation class is required as a
per-requisite.
Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program
is offered to allow more time to practice the skills learned in the NRA
First Steps Pistol class. Through the program proficiency shooting
pistols is learned while completing the different marksmanship levels.
One-on-one instruction will be provided along with firearms and ammo, if
needed. Participants may bring their own firearms and factory ammo, if
they prefer.
