SANNER'S LAKE SPORTSMEN'S CLUB

Pistol Ranges

The Bulls-eye range provides a 10 Station, 25 yard range for static shooting of paper targets with handguns or rifles (chambered in pistol caliber cartridges only) from the bench rest and off hand / standing positions. The firing line shed offers shelter to the shooters and two lanes are wheel chair accessible with a lower shooting bench option. In addition to the Bullseye Range, SLSC also has five Dynamic Shooting Bays used for official matches, training, and by members with qualifications.  Please note ammunition restrictions of bimetallic and steel core projectiles to prevent serious damages to the baffling system and berms.

Accessible Lanes

Bullseye Range Alignment Aids

Alignment Aids:

  • Red Tabs - Line up the red tab on the top of your target frame with the red tabs on your target lane.  Then stand centered with the red line on your table.  This will help put you in proper alignment to prevent most shots into the posts.
You still need to pay attention to your target and what is behind it.  Also verify that the target is set at the correct height for the person shooting to avoid baffle and ground strikes.
  • PVC Pipe - The PVC pipes between the lanes are to help keep you centered in your lane and avoid post strikes.

If the range is not busy you are allowed to remove the brass deflector screen (the left screen in the photo above) and PVC pipe from between two lanes (ie between lanes 1 and 2; 3 and 4 etc) and shoot in the middle of two lanes.  In that case, place the target stand between the two rows of red tabs. Be sure to replace the screen and pipe when you leave.  Also, if the range becomes busy, you will need to reduce down to one lane to allow for the full capacity to shoot.

The brass deflector and PVC pipe in place dividing lanes 9 and 10.

The brass deflector and PVC pipe removed to permit shooting in the middle of lanes 9 and 10 - replace when done!

    Maryland is currently a "May Issue" state rather than a "Shall Issue" state with respect to concealed-carry firearms rights.  This means that the individual applying for the permit must provide substantiation of Good and Substantial reason(s) to wear and/or carry a firearm. Successful completion of the prerequisite training DOES NOT guarantee a positive determination by the Maryland State Police and/or the Handgun Permit Review Board (HPRB) on your Wear & Carry Permit application.

    Wear and Carry Permits MAY be issued to any adult citizen of Maryland who meet the following criteria:

    • 1. Has not been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor for which a sentence of imprisonment for more than one year has been imposed;
    • 2. Has not been convicted of a crime involving the possession, use, or distribution of a controlled dangerous substance;
    • 3. Is not presently an alcoholic, addict, or habitual user of a controlled dangerous substance unless under legitimate medical direction;
    • 4. Based on an investigation, has not exhibited a propensity for violence or instability that may reasonably render the person’s possession of a handgun a danger to the person or others;
    • 5. Has a good and substantial reason to wear, carry, or transport a handgun, such as finding that the permit is necessary as a reasonable precaution against apprehended danger.
    • 6. Has successfully completed prior to application an appropriate firearms training course approved by the Maryland State Police.  Note that active-duty, retired, and honorably-discharged military do not require such training in order to apply for the W&C permit.
