Course Description: Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely.
This course is at least 8-hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest position, and two-handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, course completion certificate and take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination. MD HQL Training certificate will also be included upon successful completion of the class.

Course Details:
Course includes catered working lunch, NRA training materials, safety equipment (eye and ear protection), targets, ammunition, range-time and firearms rental, and support of certified firearms instructor(s). NRA Basic Pistol certification will be issued to all qualified participants.
Event will also include a catered working lunch. If you have special dietary needs, please contact the lead instructor at least a week ahead of the class.
This event also includes a separate course-module that provides an overview of MD State Firearms Laws, thereby meeting the training requirements for the Handgun Qualification License (HQL). HQL Training Certificates will be issued to all qualified participants.
Course fee is payable at the event. Fee is $90 ($80 for SLSC-members and immediate family) payable via check or cash. Minimum age is 21 (18 if a parent or guardian is also a participant).
Livescan finger printing MAY be made available at this event at cost of ~$65. Fee will be payable directly to the scheduled LIVESCAN provider.

The location of Sanner's Lake Sportsman Club is best seen on Google Earth. Turn on Sanner’s Lane in the 21400 block of Great Mills Rd. beside the St. Mary's Golf Shop/Driving Range. The clubhouse is behind the white farmhouse .4 off of Great Mills Rd. After passing to the left of the white farmhouse turn right into the gravel drive, enter through the Club security gate (which should be left open) and drive straight for approximately .1 mile.

SLSC Range Safety Officer and Club Orientation Class

Primary instructor: Chief Range Safety Officer, sanners.crso1@gmail.com To register for this class, please refer to the link provided in the welcome letter you were emailed when we confirmed your acceptance as a new member; this letter contained all the pertinent information you need to sign up for any of the seven New Member Orientation/NRA RSO classes we are offering this new membership year.
Course Description: Classroom training and Club Walk-Live Fire Assessment will be one 8 hr class (new members only need to choose one day) (0800-approx. 1600; check-in starts 0745.)
Goal; to develop NRA Certified Range Safety Officers who possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations.
In addition to NRA RSO course material, we will discuss SLSC, Inc. ByLaws, Standard Operating Procedures and other SLSC, Inc. specific information to help orient you to your new club.
As a final assessment of your skills and safe gun handling knowledge and practices, we will conduct a brief live-fire assessment at the pistol Bulls Eye Range.
Class will run from 8 AM until ~4:00 PM. Please arrive promptly out of respect for other students.

This is the Annual Elections Meeting for SLSC, held at location TBD

Come vote for your new Board of Directors and any By-Law proposals that may be up for review and approval by the membership. And bring some cash for a 50-50 raffle!
The Annual Charlie Deagle Sporting Clays Tournament will be held at Sanner’s Lake Shotgun Range on October 25 with a 9:00 am start.
● Tournament will consist of 75 total targets broken into two 5 station fields (35 targets each field) and a one station field (5 targets). Squads will consist of 5 shooters. Tournament is open to the public with cost, $30 for members and $35 for nonmembers (cash only) and includes lunch. Non-members must complete a waiver and adhere to all Sanner’s Lake Sportsman Club rules.
● Please RSVP in advance at mccoy.richarde@gmail.com or at the Shotgun Range during weekly events with names and phone numbers so squads can be organized in advance. Submit as a five-person squad, group less than five people, or individual shooter. Walk-ons will be put on squads as available the day of shoot and must register NLT 1000 to be guaranteed placement on a squad.
● Registration starts at 0800. The first squads will be on station at 0900.
● The club has no shotguns available and participants need to bring their own gun and ammo. Sporting clay or field type shotguns 12 gauge or smaller that hold at least 2 rounds can be used. Shooters shall load no more than two shells at any time during the tournament.
● All shooters shall have eye and ear protection. A shell carrier or vest is highly recommended.
● Ammo shall be target shells with 7 1/2, 8, or 9 shot only. A minimum of 75 shells are needed with 100 shells recommended. Shooters will be allowed two shots on all single targets.
● Prizes awarded based on shooter turnout.
● Coffee and water will be available and food is planned for lunch.
